I want to give you a piece of my mind!

The Howling is my favorite werewolf film, with "American werewolf in London" undoubtedly. It's a great movie about an underground society of werewolves living in "the colony."

The Howling has the best transformation scene EVER. American Werewolf fans won't agree with me there. I love An American Werewolf in London's transformation scene as well. But I have to give The Howling the edge for coming first. We're talking about 1980 here, and the effects are still amazing today.

The campsite was shot in the Mendocino Woodlands site . The Eddie/Marsha Quist and infirmary cabins still exists.

Nothing has changed. After 28 years, the cabins and the atmosphere are intact. I had the opportunity to shoot the video during winter when the camp site was closed. The park manager opened the cabins and she left me alone in the woods. Frankly, I had the impression to be in the movie. To be in the shoes of Terry Fisher (Belinda Balaski).

Walking inside the Eddie Quist's cabin was the ultimate experience. Very spooky. The decoration are gone but windows, chimney, walls, closet, doors are the ones used in the movie. Joe Dante probably had fun when shooting this sequence.

Following are some photos I took. As you can see, The howling spirit is still there.

  3. This is so awesome! I live in San Francisco just a bit south of there, and The Howling is my absolute favorite film. It's literally playing on dvd right now in the background while I work at home. I can't believe I haven't made a trip to the Mendocino Woodlands and the Camp Two Gate House. I better get on it! Thanks for the awesome post! :D
